There are currently 7 types of plastic used for packaging food and drinks if this was reduced it was be easier for consumer and curbside recycling to sort out, saving time and effort and making it more appealing because it has been simplified.
The issue here is that various plastic types serve different functions. Whilst in principle this seems a good idea I cannot help but think it may throw up different problems. As an alternative how about a single recycling bin and sorted by specialists at recycling depots? If councils make recycling easier it is more likely to be taken up by the general public.
Ultimately using less plastic at pint of consumption should, of course, be the real goal.
