Each thing made in the UK should have a new, revamped ( environmentally true) life-cycle analysis carried out. They should be publicly available .
Data contained within would feed into the traffic light scheme from a previous thread.
The production process must be outlined. Raw materials , their sources listed , processes described and measured in terms of energy usage, chemical by-products, transportation pollution & what happens to the waste products clearly identified.
And also to be included (!!) What happens to the product post consumption.
What will it break down into? How should it be disposed of ? Can it be repaired? Returned? Recycled?
Next step is then an annual reassessment and an explicit request to improve where possible.
